Note: QA has a weekly information column on the Developer Forums and we wondered if visitors to this site might enjoy reading about what happens at SWG:ANH during the week from the QA perspective. So I have reprinted it here. Happy reading!

Eruptor has been quietly working away on the tutorial for some time and this week we were able to get another look at his progress! The tutorial is made up of nine parts. Eru has completed Parts I through III and is well into Part IV.

Most of us probably took the original tutorial once or twice. But, it was likely to have been in 2003! You may feel a strange sort of ‘déjà vu’ when you are in the tutorial again. So testers, if you haven’t been to the tutorial since Eru added the latest stuff, you must go!

In Part I, you learn how to navigate and go from third to first person. You learn to chat also. Then in Part II, you are shown how to use the radial menu and collect your basic supplies from the Imperial Officer. Moving to Part III, you learn about banking and the Bazaar, and in Part IV, cloning and insurance. You will notice that Eru also added some new NPCs. He gave us this hint: ‘the tutorial space station is now populated with more NPCs who have a lot of opinions of what you do in there ’

SWG Closing down servers!

Ok i know this is old news, but thought id still post it as someone might have missed it.

And its about time the subtle shutdown started.

DEAR <Insert Name> of <Insert Galaxy>,

In response to requests from our players we are offering a limited time opportunity to move any characters on identified servers to a designated target galaxy at no charge. We believe that by offering a Free Character Transfer Service (CTS) in this manner we can address the concerns we have heard players voice with respect to server population. It is our hope that those of you who are looking to move will take this opportunity to do so beginning on January 13, 2009, and that this will bring with it a fresh sense of excitement and enthusiasm that will extend across all the galaxies.

Free Character Transfer will begin at 12:01AM PST on January 13, 2009, and will only be offered to those accounts with characters created on or before December 11, 2008 at 11:59 PM PST on the identified galaxies listed below. Again, the only way to qualify for the Free Character Transfer is to be on one of the identified free character transfer servers and move to one of the targeted galaxy servers. This service is only available on a one-time/once per character basis. The Free Character Transfer service will end on March 31, 2009 at 11:59PM PST.
More Details:

Effective January 13, 2009, and ending on March 31, 2009, you may transfer the character(s) you have active on the identified current “transfer from” galaxies* listed below, that were created on or before December 11, 2008 at 11:59PM PST, to one of the designated destination servers at no charge*. This option will be available on a one-time/once per character basis.

The current “transfer from” galaxy servers players may transfer from include:

The valid destination galaxy servers include:

Free Character Transfer Service Rewards – Available to Transferred Characters that Meet Free CTS Requirements

In the spirit of galactic friendship, all characters who move to a valid destination galaxy will receive a relocation gift of a painting which when “examined” will carry the name of the transferred character and the home (transferred from) planet on it. Only characters who transfer to a valid destination server as part of this promotional Free Character Transfer Service are eligible to receive the painting gift.

Along with the painting, players who transfer to a valid destination galaxy as part of the promotional free CTS will also receive a gift box which can only be used as a gift to give to a waiting welcomer on the new galaxy. Once the gift box is given to another player, it can be opened to reveal the same painting received by the transferor but with a new inscription which includes the “welcomer” recipient’s name and the moving character’s name and home galaxy, as a “thank you” for their warm welcome of the newcomer (the inscription is only visible when you use the “Examine” option to view the painting).

It is in the spirit of peace and friendship that we offer these gifts and hope that the goodwill that comes from sharing these gifts will spread across the galaxy like the stars overhead.

Moving to a New Galaxy is Easy!

Login to Star Wars Galaxies with the character you would like to transfer.
Once in game you will be notified that your character is eligible for a free character transfer and you may begin the process immediately. You may also type “/freects” to begin the transfer process at your convenience.
Your character must be located on the ground of one of the following ten (10) designated planets at the time of your transfer request to successfully perform a server transfer. The ten (10) designated planets are Corellia, Dantooine, Dathomir, Endor, Lok, Naboo, Rori, Talus, Tatooine, and Yavin 4.
At the close of the process your character and associated items will be moved as soon as reasonably practicable to do so, but it is our intention that the transfer to the destination galaxy will take place within 2 hours.
If you have any problems with the steps in the transfer process, you may contact customer service.
Once a character is transferred, you will not be able to request a reversal back to your original server or request a move to a different destination server as part of this promotion. All moves are permanent, so be sure about your decision before you make the move.
During the free CTS promotional period beginning at 12:01AM PST on January 13, 2009 through 11:59PM PST on March 31, 2009, the existing paid Character Transfer Service will be suspended for “transfer from” galaxies and transfers from the “transfer from” galaxies will only be available through the in-game promotional Free Character Transfer Service.
Please be aware that the Free CTS promotional program is only available when transferring characters on the same account and is not valid when transferring characters from one account to another.
